Arizona State University is located at 1151 Forest Avenue & East University Drive in Tempe, Arizona. ASU was founded in 1885 as the Tempe Normal School for the Arizona Territory in Tempe, Arizona. Immediately after a local butcher donated the first plot of land, the school’s area has expanded to well over 1,500 acres spanning its four campus locations. It is now the largest public research college in the U.S., offering over 250 undergraduate programs and degrees to over 56,000 students in 2011.

ASU’s ongoing efforts towards maintaining a sustainable campus saw it make the Princeton Review’s “Green Honor Roll.” It also earned an “A-” on 2010 College Sustainability Report Card. The school has a nearly equal ratio of men to women. 67% of students are Arizona residents, 37% come from out of state. However, not being a state resident will not hinder an applicant’s chances of admission. Most undergrads reside in on-campus housing and dorms, while some students choose to live in off-campus housing. These are typically upperclassmen and graduate students, with undergrads occupying most of the dorms.

Each of ASU’s twenty Division I sports teams are named the “Sun Devils.” The school is notoriously skilled in archery, badminton, baseball, and women's golf, swimming and diving, having achieved the greatest number of championship titles in these sports. The Sun Devils have played in the Fiesta Bowl and won 136 total national championships, including the Rose Bowl. ASU also has twenty Division I-A teams, and is a member of the Pacific-10 Conference.
