Georgia Tech University
Georgia Tech University, also referred to as the Georgia Institute of Technology was founded in October 1885 and is located in Atlanta, Georgia. The college offers a wide range of intercollegiate sports, majors that are and are not related to technology as well as a wide variety of ways to keep students interested as they reside on campus for their four year degree and beyond, should they choose from an array of graduate studies as well. Each year, the number of undergraduate students is around 20,000. The tuition is considered very affordable at the campus, which is why it attracts in state students, ones from around the country as well as international students as well. The tuition costs are around $7200 each year for Georgia Residents while out of state students can approximate payments in the vicinity of $25,000. On top of these costs, there are also books, meal plans as well as housing to consider.
As far as housing goes, students have a wide range of choices. These include staying in one of the on-campus dormitory rooms which include suites, doubles and four person rooms. There is also the ability to look for apartments both on and off campus. This would allow for a full kitchen as well as private bedrooms.
Georgia Tech University started off as a trade school and then grew into a technological university. In 1948 is when the school decided to rename itself based on the number of technological studies and research that was being offered at the campus. In 1961, it was also the first campus to admit African American students in the Deep South without being court ordered to do so.
Today, students of all backgrounds can enjoy a wide array of majors including architecture, computer science, engineering, management, sciences and an array of liberal arts majors. There are also 47 master’s programs and 30 doctoral programs including preparatory programs for dental, medical, veterinary and legal studies.
Athletically speaking, the Yellow Jackets , the team mascot, has been able to offer an array of sports teams including an NCAA division, football, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, track, swimming, and various other sports that students can participate in.
Students are able to find many different programs to keep them engaged in when they aren’t in class or attending (or playing in) one of the many athletic games that take place around campus. There is a student government as well as many different social clubs for students to participate in on a regular basis.
The University has prided themselves on their ability to adapt to change over the years, offering more and more majors as the economy and the students demand it. The variety of classes offered as well as the metropolitan area of Atlanta is what entices so many students to enroll here every year.
