Texas Tech University was found in 1923, but did not actually open until 1925, and was known as Texas Technical College. The school opened with 914 students. On September 1, 1969, the Texas State Legislature changed its name from Texas Technical College to Texas Tech University.

Since then, Texas Tech University has become an enormous educational institution. 30,000 students coming from 50 states and 90 different countries represent a very diverse student body.
