The University Of California Davis
The University of California Davis is located in Davis, California, which is in the heart of the Central Valley and very close to San Francisco Bay. It was founded in 1905 and the first students were admitted to the university in 1908. Since then, it is one of 63 North American universities to be admitted into the Association of American Universities, a very prestigious organization. UC Davis is one of 10 campuses that belong to the University of California and is a four-year university that also offers graduate studies.
Students attending the UC Davis can major in a variety of different studies. These include science related ones such as genetics, geology, hydrology, microbiology and physics. There are also various other majors including art history, music, medieval studies and many more, totaling 102 undergraduate majors and 88 graduate programs. Most students have no problems choosing a major because there are more offered here than in many other universities across the country.
As of the fall of 2010, there were 32,290 students in attendance at the University of California Davis with a pretty even split between genders. The tuition for the school varies from year to year but is in the range of $14,000 for students who are California residents and $38,000 for those who are out of state.
There are a total of 23 intercollegiate sports for students to be involved in, joining the team of the Aggies. These sports include football, basketball, baseball, golf, cross country and water polo, though there are many more that students can choose from as well.
Housing options are plentiful, allowing students to stay on campus or off. The entire community is very student-focused. As long as a student has met the required campus deadlines, assistance is available to all students to ensure that they get the necessary housing they need. Students can choose from dormitories on campus for the first year and then a wide range of apartments on and off the campus after their freshmen year.
There is a wide range of activities that students can be involved in on a regular basis. These include the Greek system of sororities and fraternities, social clubs as well as a slew of other activities that can be based on a student’s major or social interests.
The University has been designed to offer a very balanced education with a plethora of majors, a lot of sports as well as social interests to ensure that each student who graduates is an overall well-rounded student.
Students who attend the university have gone on to lead very enriching lives throughout California and around the globe. The college offers a career counselor that can help with education requirements as well as career placement to make it easier for a person to become employed after graduation.
