Located in eastern Tennessee, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville was founded in 1794, originally known as "Blount College". The university began has an all boys school, but became coeducational in 1892. During the civil war, the college was forced to closed and was temporarily used as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
